ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) - It's a new look that's spreading in West Texas. "In God We Trust" decals on patrol cars. The Ector County Sheriff's Office is now joining in.

They will be putting the "In God We Trust" decals on 30 of their vehicles.

"We just feel like that this is something that needs to be seen. This is a community that is a community of people that do trust in God and we just feel like with the job that we do, that we need to have God on our side," said Mark Donaldson, Ector County Sheriff.

"In God We Trust" decals are being adopted all over west Texas.

"It's something that's been going on, you've seen it around the state of Texas, with the attorney general's opinions stating that we can put these on our vehicles. It's on all of our money, why can't we put this on our vehicles?" said Donaldson.

The Ector County Sheriff's Department is going one step further. The new decals won't be put on patrol vehicles.

"This is a start and it will be on all of our marked vehicles including all of our jail vehicles and our animal control vehicles," said Donaldson.

The decision to put the decals on the vehicles was made about one month ago.

"Who made the decision? Where does it come from? Is there a vote? No. It's my decision on whether to put them on there and so they're on there," said Donaldson.

Several surrounding communities who have already put the decals on have seen support and appreciation and the Ector County Sheriff says they expect the same feedback.

"I haven't had anybody say 'we don't want them on there.' The majority of the people are going to be for it," said Donaldson.

The Ector County Sheriff's Department plans to have the "In God We Trust" decals on all marked units by the end of next week.
