Authorities looking for person responsible for shooting Red Tail Hawk

TERLINGUA, TX (KWES) -

Authorities are looking for the person responsible for shooting a bird of prey.

The Brewster County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the the person who shot and killed a Red Tail Hawk.

Authorities say they believe the hawk was shot and killed around January 19.

The hawk was found near the Terlingua Creek Bridge next to FM 170.

The hawk isn't on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife's Endangered or Threatened Species List.

However. it is protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

It is illegal to collect, harm or remove the Red Tail Hawk from its natural habitat.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to call Brewster County Sheriff's Office at (432) 837-3488.

If your tip leads to the arrest of the person responsible, you could earn a $500 reward.
