Woman killed in Andrews fire identified, possible arson investigation underway

ANDREWS, TX (KWES) - A woman was injured in a mobile home fire Tuesday afternoon in the 1100 block of NE 5th Street and later pronounced dead, authorities said.

An off-duty deputy observed the blaze around noon, called for help and managed to extricate the woman from the burning home with the help of another deputy and an unidentified civilian, according to Andrews Police.

The two deputies were treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital and released the same afternoon, investigators confirmed.

Authorities said the woman, who has been identified as Danielle Goodreau, 43, of San Antonio, was rushed to the emergency room and promptly transported to Lubbock for further treatment.

"She did not make it," Andrews Police Lt. Ronny McCarver said Tuesday evening. "This is now a fire death investigation."

It could also become an arson investigation, authorities said.

Officials from the State Fire Marshal's Office were dispatched to assist in the investigation and spent at least three hours inspecting the charred remains of the mobile home.

Authorities could not yet determine if the fire was accidental or a case of arson.
