PECOS, TX (KWES) -

A Pecos elementary school teacher turned himself into police on Thursday.

Doug Lane is charged with possessing cocaine.

An anonymous person tipped off police saying Lane had drugs on him.

Lane is an 8th grade basketball coach at Crockett Middle School in Pecos and also a teacher at Bessie Haynes Elementary.

After the tip, police started surveillance on Lane and his vehicle.

Police observed Lane stop by a convenience store and saw him leave shortly after.

Police then decided to conduct a traffic stop.

During the stop, Lane gave police consent to search his vehicle but drugs were not found.

Police later returned to the convenience store where Lane stopped and that's where two small bags of cocaine were found in the restroom.

Lane was taken to the police department the same day and that's when he admitted that the cocaine was his.

On Wednesday, a warrant was issued for Lane's arrest.

The Superintendent of the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah Independent School District said Lane has been put on paid administrative leave and they're doing everything they can to instill confidence with parents.
