Pioneer Natural Resources to use treated wastewater from Odessa

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Pioneer Natural Resources plans to use treated sewer water from Odessa for drilling.

That may sound gross, but it helps the environment in two ways.

First, they won't be using freshwater, which is saving a precious resource here.

Secondly, it will cut down on truck traffic.

Less trucks will be on the road hauling water to job sites.

Pioneer built a little more than 20 miles of pipeline from Odessa's wastewater treatment plant to its water supply facilities.

They say the deal also bring in revenue to the city.

The agreement is for $117 million to provide pioneer with the treated wastewater for 11 years.
