ODESSA, TX (KWES) - An Odessa man is behind bars on several charges following a weekend police call in Odessa.
Police say while patrolling the area of 16th Street and Harless Ave. they saw a truck go over a curb and hit a sign.
That's when, police say, they turned on their police lights but the truck went eastbound away from them and accelerated at a high rate of speed.
According to the report, the driver also ran over a fire hydrant and crashed into a home in the 1200 block of Alameda.
Officers later found the driver, identified as Jesus Humberto Nieto, Jr., 33, lying on the ground near some bushes.
Authorities say when they spoke with Nieto, officers could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Nieto's breath.
Nieto was also found to be in possession of cocaine in his pocket.
Nieto has been charged with driving while intoxicated 3rd or more, evading in a motor vehicle, prohibited substance in a correctional facility, possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine, leaving the scene of an accident and driving while license invalid with prior convictions.
