Man arrested after armed standoff, car chase

CRANE COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

A man in Crane County is behind bars after a standoff with SWAT teams on Monday night.

Deputies with the Crane County Sheriff’s Office as well as Officers with the Crane Police Department were called out to a call of a domestic problem late that evening.

When they arrived on the scene, they were told Larry Scott Hawkins, 45, was heavily armed. Odessa Police Department SWAT, Ector County SWAT as well as DPS Texas Rangers were called to assist in this standoff.

The suspect later fled the scene in a personal vehicle, leading authorities on a high-speed chase into Ector County that reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour. He ended the chase by returning to the initial residence.

He was arrested once he had returned, without incident.

Hawkins was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest with a vehicle.
