HOWARD COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

An item on the Howard County Commissioners Court agenda many people had opinions about was the reduction of speed limits.

After about eight weeks Monday night the commissioners court approved the reduction of the speed limit of a Howard County road.

County road and bridge engineer, Brian Klinsiek said, "This road is approximately one mile starting at Riva Ridge continuing east past the county club."

Klinsiek said all 21 landowners along this road were given a letter asking for their opinion regarding the speed limit, the majority proposed to reduce it.

"Landowners have requested dropping the current speed from 40 miles [an hour] to 30 miles because of children playing," Klinsiek said.

According to Klinsiek another issue that was wildlife, many deer are commonly hit along this road. Residents said want to prevent it as much as possible.

Klinsiek said if all goes as planned the new speed limits could kick in as early as Tuesday at noon.
