MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - It's something they have done every year for the past seven years.
The Lifehouse Fellowship Church handed out black eyed peas for the start of the new year.
The ministry started with 500 cans to give away.
It has since grown into an outpouring of over 2,500 cans.
Jeremy Sutton, the pastor of the church, says they do it for more than just good luck.
"We're going to just distribute out within our community and just be a blessing, no good luck, just we wish you a prosperous and a happy new year," said Sutton.
This year, the church decided to highlight northern Midland in the area surrounding Lee High School.
