MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - If you're planning on bringing the New Year in with a bang, firing a gun is illegal in the city limits.
It may be a tradition for some families but it's dangerous.
Police say that bullet you fire into the air has to come back down and it may end up hitting someone.
That person could be injured or even die.
"It's against the city ordinance to discharge a firearm within the city limits. We want people to celebrate the New Year, the holiday season, but celebrate it responsibly and be safe," said Midland Police Chief, Price Robinson.
If you shoot off a gun in the Midland city limits, you'll be ticketed.
The fine is $375 but police say the cost is much higher if you hurt or kill someone.
