Two Odessa police officers continue to recover following standoff

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

Two Odessa police officers are continuing to recover following a standoff in Odessa.    

Medical Center Hospital officials say Corporal Cory Wester is in good condition.

Sergeant Pete Gonzalez was released just in time for Christmas after being shot in the chest and upper leg.

The standoff happened at the Clayton Manor Town Homes in Odessa.

Wester and Gonzalez were serving a warrant when the suspect fired at them.

Roy Garza is charged with eight counts of attempted capital murder after shooting those two officers.

This was not Garza's first run in with the law.

His criminal record dates back to 2006 and ranges from possession of a controlled substance to aggravated robbery.

27-year-old Meghan Leanne Garza was also arrested during the standoff.

Police say she denied officers entry into the apartment.

She is charged with hindering apprehension and prosecution of a known felon.
