8:24 a.m.

The shows are over, it's been crazy, Paul, my (Alejandra) producer, was a genius! He helped me shoot updates throughout the night including weather and Flight cancellations. Thank you!! It's been fun and crazy but super glad we had live coverage helping you stay up to date on what you can expect this weekend and part of your work week.

Ronnie, our Internet Content Director, is amazing! He helped us create the crawler (list of Churches that canceled their Sunday Service) thanks to him you were able to stay updated!!

8 a.m.

Our live streaming coverage has ended for this morning. You can keep up to date on the latest church and business closures at

6:28 a.m.

The show is going well, so well we will do it all over again at 7 a.m.

6 a.m.

The NewsWest9 news and weather team are continuing to follow the winter winter moving across the Basin. We are currently airing a special edition of NewsWest9 weekend. The special is currently being live streamed at You can also watch the live stream on our news app. Download our news or new weather app at

5:09 AM: Just finalized my morning forecast. The cold front yesterday moved faster than initially anticipated. This caused more rain and will cause a delay to the snowfall, but it is approaching our metro area.

5:03 A.M.

Our Executive Producer has left the building. She could barely get into her car. The door was frozen shut. Our anchor and producer went to the airport and we hope they make it back soon. The show starts in less than an hour.  Just got a text from Viviana Solis, she’ll do weather hits for Telemundo. She texted the roads are really bad and she’s driving slow.

Damien is about to do several weather cut-ins before the big show.

4:34 a.m.

Damien says the snow is on its way. Alejandra and Paul have shot a few Facebook videos and our Executive Producer is editing away and now back at her desk studying our show. It feels good to get so many organizations reaching out to us to get word out that they will be closed. Our radio partners in Big Spring have mentioned there have been crashes with injuries in their area.

Salvation Army of Midland and the one in Odessa have canceled church services. The NewsWest9 news and information crawl is now running for at least 8 hours straight.

1:00 a.m.

This is a weather blog by the NewsWest9 team of journalists who brought you “Winter Weather”, a 6 a.m. special report covering one of the final visits by Old Man Winter.

We knew this was coming thanks to our team of meteorologists and so planning started a few days ago, but you can only do so much until it’s time for a real deadline.

It is now a little after 1 a.m. and the 6 a.m. special is well underway being produced by several top journos in our market. One of our managers just learned to set up a live shot for the special show, but we want more and so now he learned how to add a stick mic and he’ll have our meteorologist live a few times in the one hour newscast.
