ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) - Many people in Ector County may be wondering just who they will be seeing in the sheriff's seat come 2017.
The time for qualified candidates to file has now come and gone, leaving only a few people on the ballot.
The deadline expired on Monday evening and that was actually an extended deadline.
The original one was set for December 14, but after attorneys could not get in a legal agreement, they decided filing needed to be re-opened.
That's when the current sheriff, Mark Donaldson, decided to take himself off the ballot. Donaldson is not stepping down, he still has another full year to serve as sheriff.
He has decided not to run for re-election.
Mike Griffis and Joe Commander are the only two people on the ballot running for Ector County Sheriff.
NewsWest9 checked with the Republicans office several times on Monday to see if anyone has been added to the ballot.
They said here has been one other person that expressed interest in running for election but they did not qualify. That was due to new legislation that requires anyone wanting to run to be a registered voter.
