MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - This holiday season the Grinch isn't the only one trying to steal Christmas. NewsWest 9 spoke to one homeowner affected by seasonal thieves.
Alan Roy says, "I walked out on the morning of the 16th and all of a sudden they [decorations] were gone."
Decorating is a tradition for many. The Roy family has been decorating their home for years.
"Ever since I was little I loved lights, now I have a three year old granddaughter that's starting to love lights," says Roy.
This year something unexpected happened many can relate to.
Roy says, "I had ten big light bulbs sitting on my front lawn. I went and looked on the security camera and saw that at about 10:08 p.m. they had drove up, took them, and left. That quick."
The homeowner says the thief stole about $200 worth of Christmas ornaments in less than two minutes.
Midland Police says this family is not the only one hurting from this type of loss.
Midland Police Sergeant, Jimmy Young says, "They're hitting all over town. I've heard of some who have hit Louisiana, the 900 block, and also the North Midland area. It's people driving around, stealing Christmas ornaments."
Police urge you to call Midland Crime Stoppers at 432-694-TIPS if you have any clues. You will remain anonymous and you can be rewarded.
"If you hear anything late at night check it out. Just take care of one another, if you see your neighbor's stuff being taken, take photos of the license plate, vehicle, anything that helps us," says Young.
If the person who stole these decorations is watching, this homeowner has a message.
"I just want them to come back because I have a present for them," says Roy.
