Midland Woman Pleads Guilty to Wire Fraud, Obstructing Justice Charges

MIDLAND COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

She was once a federal fugitive but now one woman will be a federal inmate.

54-year-old Judy Fryar, also known as Judy Francis, plead guilty to federal wire fraud charges and obstructing justice.

Fryar admitted to embezzling money from her employer, SKP Holdings, to the tune of around $140,000.

Court records show Fryar was the manager at the West Park Apartments in Midland.

She accepted cash payments for rent then used the money for herself and tried to conceal it by altering records.

The owner found out when he visited the property.

Authorities say Fryar faked lung cancer to delay the trial and even forged letters from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

But the center had already told her before she asked for continuances that she was cancer free.

Investigators say she later failed to appear in court but they ended up finding her at her family's lake house.

She faces up to 30 years in prison and will be sentenced in February.
