Car Crashes Into Odessa Home, Driver Takes Off

A car crashed into a home overnight in Odessa, and then took off. It happened around 4:00 a.m. When the entire family was inside sleeping. Luckily no one was injured when the car crashed through their home, but they have been left with a lot of damage. The driver plowed so far into the home, the couches in the living room were even struck by the car. The family says it's amazing no one was killed, especially since their son often sleeps on the couch, and just by chance was not last night. When we spoke with the family, authorities were still searching for driver who crashed into their home.

"We've already got a person of interest."

We found authorities questioning the owner of the car.

"He reported the vehicle stolen last night."

After crashing into the home, the driver drove just a few blocks away and left the car in a parking lot of an apartment complex. As authorities searched for the driver, he turned himself in. The Odessa Police Department tells us he is 17 year old Edwin Hinojos. Today the owner of the vehicle says he is in disbelief of the damage done to his car he bought less than two months ago.

"This is going to be turned over to our traffic division. The hit and run investigator."

Since the investigation into this crash is still underway, we do not yet know what caused the driver to plow into the home. The Odessa Police Department tells us Hinojos has been booked on outstanding traffic warrants.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
