Murder Victim’s Father Speaks Out About Murder-Suicide in Odessa

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

Two people died in an apparent murder-suicide in Odessa over the weekend.

Now, the father of one of the victim's is talking about what lead up to the violence.

Police say Monica Deming was shot to death by 38-year-old Brandon Leyva, who then turned the gun on himself.

It happened around 1 a.m. Sunday morning in the 100 block of Quail Run.

Police say the two had been in a relationship.

Deming's father, Jon Nielsen, says she was a victim of vicious stalking and sought help from several agencies.

He says nothing could have prevented her death because Leyva came into her home, shooting through the window.

Neilson says they were out buying more security cameras for her home, the day before she was killed.

"Monica believed she would be killed by this stalker. She used to say when I die, because she knew he'd get to her somewhere, but she just didn't know where it would happen,” said Neilson.

The Odessa Police Department says a crime victims liaison representative has reached out to the Nielsen's for any help they may need.
