MIDLAND-ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Those of you traveling back home after the holiday, some winter weather headed our way could affect your plans. Those of you flying out of Midland International Airport Friday night or Saturday, you'll want to keep an eye out for weather related delays. Those of you hitting the road, icy conditions are something to be on the lookout for as this winter weather hits our area here very soon. Officials with the city of Midland say holiday travelers should check with the airlines for any weather delays. NewsWest 9 spoke with some people flying out Friday afternoon who were able to avoid the winter weather concerns.

"I knew that I had to fly out today so I was praying that I would just get out of here before it all came down," said Milissa Clark, who was flying out of Midland International Airport.

"I'm happy about it because I've been stuck in airports before and it's not any fun," said Rene Cordova, who was also flying out of Midland International Airport.

Last year when a severe ice storm swept through the area, Midland International Airport kept operations up and running, but many travelers told us, they still expect delays and cancellations.

"Yeah it's going to be, you now it's going to be, that way when people plan to go home at the last minute on Sunday and sometimes and probably be late to work or not make it at all on Monday. I mean that's just the way it is. You can't control mother nature. So, that's the way it goes," said Cordova.

"I just hope everybody stays in if they can and stays safe," said Clark
