Survivor of Highway 349 Crash Remains in Critical Condition

A Midland woman remained in critical condition Monday night at Midland Memorial Hospital, officials said, following a weekend accident in Martin County that killed her husband and daughter.

Jean Marie Hayslip, 55, is among the three survivors of the deadly head-on collision.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Chevrolet Silverado heading south on Highway 349 drifted into the northbound lane near County Road 3200, approximately 16 miles north of Midland.

Investigators said the Chevy, driven by Vela Leonides, 37, struck a Toyota Sienna traveling north on 349 around 7:40 a.m. on Saturday.

Leonides and the driver of the Toyota, 25-year-old Tyler Hudgins, were both transported to Midland Memorial in stable condition, DPS officials said.

Two passengers in the Toyota - Alyssa Hudgins, 23, and Ardis Hayslip, 59 - were pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Pam McAnally.

Friends later identified them as father and daughter, and shared a photo of the family on Alyssa's wedding day.

The third passenger in the Toyota, Jean Marie Hudgins, was transported to Midland Memorial in critical condition.

A bereavement fund for the Hudgins-Hayslip family raised more than $16,000 in two days.

"Please be in prayer for Jean and her son-in-law, Tyler, as they have lost their dearest loved ones," a friend wrote on the GoFundMe page:
