Deadly Crash in Lovington, New Mexico

A driver died after crashing into a horse outside of Lovington, New Mexico.

The accident happened just after 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 11.

State Police say 61-year-old Robin Merritt, of Lovington, was driving on State Road 206, near the intersection with Dakota Road.

Police say she struck a horse in the roadway, which caused extensive damage to Merritt's car.

Merritt died at the scene.

State Police say Merritt was wearing a seat belt and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
