Felon Arrested Following "Shots Fired" Call in Odessa

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

One man is behind bars on several charges following an incident on Tuesday evening in Odessa.

Authorities tell NewsWest9, they responded to the 3600 block of North Muskingum in reference to a subject with a gun firing at houses.

When officers arrived on the scene, officers spotted a male subject matching the suspect’s description, holding a firearm in his hands.

As soon as the suspect saw officers, he began running on foot.

The subject, later identified as Eric Rodriguez, 20, was found inside a home after police set up a perimeter in the 3600 block of Eisenhower.

According to the report, authorities found a Ruger .45 caliber handgun in a nearby backyard. Police say the serial number on the handgun had been scraped off, indicating that it was possibly stolen.

Further investigation revealed that Rodriguez was a convicted felon.

Authorities also found .45 caliber ammunition inside the home he was found in along with a white tank top that he had been wearing.

Rodriguez has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, evading arrest or detention and tampering with identification numbers.
