Odessa Police Arrest Suspected Gunman

ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

Odessa police arrested a man suspected of shooting at homes in a neighborhood.

Police say the man was going around the area of 38th street and Muskingum Avenue firing at houses.

It happened near the Wilson and Young Medal of Honor Middle School.

When officers arrived, they say they spotted the man and he ran off.

They set up a perimeter in the area and eventually caught him.

The suspect's name has not been released.

There are no reports of injuries or damage.

Ector County School District spokesman Mike Adkins tells Newswest 9 that school officials became aware of the situation outside.

Those officials decided to shelter in place.

He said about 100 students, parents, and teachers were there at the time for various events, including tutoring, a basketball team meeting, and band.

Adkins said campus police contacted Odessa police about the situation.

After talking to them, it was deemed safe to exit everyone out of the building through the back parking lot.

No one at the school was injured.
