MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - Parents at Midland High School are looking to make a very big change to its athletic program.
A petition called "Bulldogs for Change" has started and in only four days it has over 100 supporters.
The petition is an effort to replace Midland High School's Head Football Coach, Craig Yenzer. Yenzer was named the head football coach back in 2002.
Many parents are voicing their opinions online with statements like, "Yenzer has had very talented players and has been unable to nurture their talent into a winning football team," and, "he has been using the same plays for 10 years."
Other parents are fighting back saying, "football is about more than winning" and "before you sign this I urge you to meet the man in person."
Coach Yenzer has received numerous coaching awards including three time District 3-4A coach of the year and was chosen as "Midland's favorite coach" eight years since 2003, the most recent being in 2014.
NewsWest9 reached out to Midland ISD Superintendent, Dr. Ryder Warren and his statement is as follows, "We welcome any parent or community member if they have concerns about any of our athletic programs to set up a meeting with our executive director of athletics, Mr. Randy Rowe. It will never be the practice of this school district to allow any form of a petition to influence decisions regarding personnel."
NewsWest9 also reached out to the campaign starter but they decided to not to comment.
We will continue to update you as we receive more information.
