Permian Student Arrested For Having Gun on Campus

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - A Permian High School student has been arrested for having a gun on campus on Thursday afternoon.

The ECISD tells NewsWest9, around 2:15 p.m., school principals were informed of an argument between a girl and boy in the hallway at Permian High School.

A school officer, who was near the argument, escorted the 16-year-old male student to the office to find out why he was having an argument with the boy.

Administrators say as the principal searched the boy's backpack, a gun was found.

We're told the gun was immediately confiscated and the male student was arrested.

He has been charged with places weapons prohibited, which is a third degree felony.

Authorities say the boy claimed he was given the gun by another person while off campus and school administrators say they don't believe the student intended to hurt anyone.
