CARLSBAD, NM (KWES) - A trip to Carlsbad Caverns now entails a bit of exercise.
Officials say the second of two passenger elevators was shut down to be assessed for repairs after it stalled in the hoistway between the surface and the caverns.
Now both elevators at the caverns are out of order.
The only way visitors will be able to enter Carlsbad Caverns will be through the Natural Entrance, which involves a 1.25-mile walk.
Visitors who choose to make the walk will have to hike back out the same steep trail.
