Four new multi-purpose athletic fields are going up at the Scharbauer Sports Complex.
The Midland City Council approved plans for the fields and will now take bids for the project.
City officials say last year they had almost 8,000 sports players play on their fields but it tore up the grass so much, the fields were damaged.
The city is adding the playing fields so players aren't on the same fields over and over.
"We're really excited about having four new fields at the sports complex. Not only do they give people options of another place to play, but to also give our other fields a little bit of a rest so that they stay in better shape," said Midland Public Information Officer, Sara Bustilloz.
