Longtime Odessa Fire-Rescue Member Promoted

A long-time member of the Odessa Fire and Rescue is climbing to the top.

Joey White has been promoted to division captain.

He's been with Odessa Fire and Rescue for more than 23 years.

His last position was station captain, which he held for the past 10 years.

White is taking the place of former division captain, Hugh Koenig.

Koenig was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in July.

White says he's honored to fill his shoes.

"I think it's me following up through the ranks and following in Captain Koenig's footsteps. He mentored me through the years. It's just a natural progress for me to follow someone that I've idoled and loved for the last 23 years," said White.

Other position’s White has held includes paramedic and firefighter and engineer.
