Man Arrested After Attempting Break-In with Shovel

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

A Midland man was arrested after police say he tried to force his way into a house with a shovel.

Police responded to the 1500 block of North Terrell Street, just after 3 on Sunday morning after receiving a call in reference to the break-in.

When police arrived, the suspect, Jacob Castillo, 22, was sitting on the back porch.

Castillo reportedly smelled like alcohol and had to lean on the house to maintain his balance.

Police also noticed a broken window in the kitchen, where Castillo had tried to enter the home using a shovel.

When asked why he had tried to break in, Castillo told police he was trying to "hang out" at the residence with a life-long friend.

Castillo also admitted to drinking six beers earlier in the day.

?Castillo was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation and public intoxication.
