Lawmakers Shorten STAAR Tests

Students across Texas will now have shorter tests to take.

Lawmakers approved a requirement stating that STAAR tests must be less time consuming for young students.

The majority of students third through fifth grade should be able to finish each test in two hours while the majority of sixth through eighth graders are expected to complete the test in three hours.

2016 STAAR writing tests have already been adjusted for grades 4 through 7.

For 2016 only, the number of tests third through eighth graders take will be reduced from eight to five.
Data collected in 2016 will go toward adjusting future exams.
