Tension filled the air this morning as Odessa fire crews responded to a fire at Medical Center Hospital.
The smell of smoke filled the east wing of the building around 9 a.m. and an electrical surge caused power outages throughout the building.
Odessa Fire Department responded to the scene and the fire was put out shortly after.
"The fire was ultimately contained by the Odessa Fire Department," says William Webster with MCH. "We did transfer mothers and babies out the east wing, which is our center for women and infants."
Those families have been moved to another part of the hospital that was not affected by the fire.
Families visiting their loved ones at MCH were directed to an auditorium where they received more information on the incident.
The Midland Fire Department has stepped up today to help with any calls in the area.
