33-Year-Old Father Killed at West Odessa RV Park, Shooter Still At Large

ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

An argument led to a deadly shooting early Tuesday morning at a trailer park in the 2500 block of N. Alturas Avenue, officials said.

The unidentified suspect remained at large Tuesday night.

Deputies responded around 1:25 a.m. and were led to the victim by a woman at the scene, according to a press release issued by the Ector County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said Jimmy Edward Porras, 33, was on the ground outside an RV, covered in a blanket and bleeding from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The suspect had already fled.

Deputies immediately notified paramedics, Sheriff Mark Donaldson said, and began collecting evidence from the scene.

Odessa Fire/Rescue later arrived and declared Porras deceased. The victim's body was sent to Tarrant County for an autopsy.

"Witnesses said they heard two men arguing and then they heard a gunshot," Donaldson told NewsWest 9. "We don't know what they were arguing about."

The woman who led deputies to Porras said he had been visiting her at the trailer park and left after a heated phone conversation "because he felt threatened," according to the Sheriff's Office.

She told investigators she heard a single gunshot outside her trailer approximately 10 minutes later, grabbed a knife and ran outside to find Porras on the ground.

Relatives shared photos of Porras with NewsWest 9 and took to social media to express their grief.

"RIP cuzzo Jimmy," a heartbroken cousin wrote on Facebook. "Another cousin left us today... We need all the prayers we can get."

A friend told NewsWest 9 he "leaves behind five wonderful children."

Anybody with information is urged to contact the Ector County Sheriff's Office at (432) 335-3050.
