UPDATE: Man Dies After Being Shot by Deputies

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Ector County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the man who was shot by deputies on Sunday morning after charging at them with a machete is dead.

The man was identified as Robert Humberto Medellin, 43. The body has been sent to Tarrant County for autopsy.

The incident happened  following a chase.

Deputies were called out to the 6700 block of Ector Street where the man was threatening a woman with a machete. 

When they got there, the man had already fled in his car, but deputies found the man and tried to pull him over. That's when the chase began. 

When the suspect pulled over in the 5200 block of West 40th Street, deputies had their weapons drawn. The suspect got out of the vehicle with the machete in hand and charged at the deputies.

Three of the deputies shot at the man. No deputies were hurt in the shooting. The suspect was taken to the hospital. 

Investigation by the Texas Rangers continues.
