MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - Prehistoric reptiles have come to town!

Midland is hosting "Discover the Dinosaurs" this weekend at the Horseshoe Arena.

The series of interactive exhibits and activities create a "fun environment of learning," organizers said.

Life-sized dinosaur models from about 10 different time periods move and roar against a backdrop of rocks and plants. Sounds effects, lighting and fog machines transform the maze of giant reptiles into a scene straight from Jurassic Park.

"There's one you can actually sit in," event visitor Erica Gutierrez said with a laugh. "[You can] get in the mouth and take a picture one with that one."

Discover the Dinosaurs encourages poking, prodding, riding and roaring back at the displays.

Organizers explained how the "scenes engage visitors with sight, sound and motion."

Gutierrez said her son, 4-year-old Kayden Wilson, left with a renewed love of science after getting the chance to play paleontologist.

"He loves the dinosaurs," she told NewsWest 9. "He was fossil digging before we even came and he was like, 'Mommy, let's go! I want to dig for fossils out there!'"

Activities at Discover the Dinosaurs include a dino dig, saddled dinosaur rides, gem and fossil panning, dino mini golf, a theater area, a dino den with giant stuffed dinosaurs to cuddle with, face painting and more.

The event runs Saturday, Oct. 10 and Sunday, Oct. 11 at the Midland Horseshoe Arena.
