Midlanders Do Some Fall Planting

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

Midlanders did some fall planting on Saturday. The Midland Parks and Recreation Division invited the public out help get some roots in the ground before harsh temperatures head our way. It was an educational and fun event for the whole family. The Midland Parks and Recreation Department says it's the perfect time of year to do some planting. Their goal today was to plant landscapes that are beautiful but resourceful for west Texas.

"You know we're trying to promote water wise landscape because we're out in the edge of the dessert here in Midland. We're not a lush green place. We will never be. Some years we have good years where we have lots of rain and then others we don't have rain at all. So we're trying to be responsible and make sure that we're using  our resources wisely," said an employee of the Midland Parks & Recreation Department.

Professionals were there to talk about good planting practices and how to give your landscape the best chance for success. Each volunteer received a tree so they can put what they learned to the test in their own backyard.
