Theft in the oil industry is becoming a rising problem here in the Basin.
Sheriff Gary Painter says he has recently seen a huge increase of theft on oil field sites.
Now, with the help of the FBI's oil field theft task force, the Midland County Sheriff's Office is working hard to put the thieves behind bars.
Sheriff Painter says those stealing from oil companies are likely former oil field employees and that the most common items stolen are drill bits and pipes.
The value of the stolen items usually costs companies hundreds of thousands of dollars.
