Midland College to Participate in National Moment of Silence

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) -

Classrooms across the nation will fall silent on Thursday afternoon, including Midland College.

Midland College will be joining with other institutions on Thursday, October 8, at 1 p.m. in a National Moment of Silence in honor of the victims of the Roseburg, Oregon shooting.

Midland College President Dr. Steve Thomas is asking MC employees and students to observe the National Moment of Silence in classrooms and offices at all MC locations.

Thomas said, “We were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic events of last Thursday at Umpqua Community College.  We want our colleagues at Umpqua to know that we stand with them as they begin the process of healing their campus community.”

The moment of silence is being coordinated by the American Association of Community Colleges.

Also as a show of solidarity and support, Midland College is participating in a nationwide social media campaign by using the #IamUCC hashtag via Facebook and Twitter.
