BIG SPRING, TX (KWES) - A group leading the fight against the new Howard College property tax rate believes they have enough signatures on a petition to put it to a vote.
They were required to get more than 1,054 signatures to secure an election.
Howard College president, Cheryl Sparks, confirmed the petition was turned in on Monday to the administration office.
She said the signatures would be counted to make sure they have the required amount.
College trustees recently approved a seven cent hike in the new tax rate.
It is currently above the roll back rate which made it eligible for a petition.
