Midland Philanthropist, Oilman Passes Away at 84

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - A well known Midland philanthropist and oilman has passed away.

Joe Mabee died unexpectedly at the hospital on Saturday, October 3, after suffering a heart attack. He was 84 years old.

Mabee was instrumental in relocating the Confederate Air Force to Midland.

He was an avid aviation collector, a member of the Petroleum Museum and honored by the Petroleum Hall of Fame. 

Mabee was also the chairman of the Mabee Foundation, which has given financial help to many organizations in Midland and other organizations within Texas and around the United States.

He is survived by his wife, his four children, 17 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Big Spring. on Tuesday, October 6, at 2 p.m.
