The report says around 3:00 this morning, a state trooper saw a car behind a convenience store at Loop 250 and Thomason.

The car, being driven by Esmeralda Ramirez, 17, was stopped by the trooper as it was driving down the alley.

A Midland County Deputy stopped to assist the trooper and was told that there were two men were inside the store, identified as Joe Luis Villarreal, 21, and Rico Lee Robledo, 22.

The report says that's when the two men inside the store took off.

Villarreal hopped a fence near a business in the 5300 block of Thomason and was later found hiding in a backyard.

The other suspect, Robledo, attempted to hide behind a bush..

Authorities say, the deputy drove up to the curb and asked the Robledo to stand up.

Robledo stood up and started firing at the deputy who then returned fire, hitting Robledo in the head and groin.
