Retired DPS Officer From Big Spring Drowns at Lake Alan Henry

GARZA COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

A Big Spring man, who was a retired Department of Public Safety officer, was found dead on Wednesday evening at Lake Alan Henry as an apparent drowning victim.

According to our news partner, KCBD-TV in Lubbock, the Garza County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the body of Weldon Jones, 54, was recovered by Parks and Wildlife officers.

Garza County Sheriff’s Office authorities tell KCBD-TV, his body was found next to his capsized kayak in the Gobbler Creek area of Lake Allen Henry.

According to KCBD’s report, a request for a welfare check went out around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday and Jones’ body was found about 25 minutes later.

Sheriff’s Officials say Jones was a retired DPS officer who is said to have had an “impeccable record” with the state law enforcement agency.
