Odessa Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Bust

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Two men are behind bars on drug charges following a traffic stop in Odessa.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest9, a traffic stop was conducted on a Dodge Ram at the intersection of 42nd Street and Robertson Avenue on Friday evening.

According to the report, the driver was identified as Martin Lujan, Jr., 22, and the passenger was identified as Nicholas Rodriguez, 22.

Authorities say during the traffic stop, officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Officers searched Rodriguez and found a plastic bag inside his pants and that's where two bags of a white powdery substance were found. Both bags tested positive for cocaine.

The total amount of drugs found was almost 140 grams and over $2,500 was also found on Rodriguez.

During the search of the vehicle, a black scale, with a cocaine residue, was found under Lujan's seat.

Officers also found a .40 caliber pistol which was claimed by Lujan.

Both men were arrested and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.

Rodriguez has been charged with manufacture or delivery of cocaine and Lujan was arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapon.
