MIDLAND, TX (KWES)
SK Arms is one step closer to their six-year dream of an indoor shooting range.
On Tuesday, the Midland City Council approved a change in zoning and a specific use permit for the range.
The proposed gun range will be off of spring park drive, east of big spring street and is estimated to cost $8 million dollars.
This will be the first indoor gun range for midland.
We're told the range will provide for educational opportunities, provided by off-duty law enforcement officers.
"West Texas people are gun enthusiasts, both for hunting and for sport purposes. With Texas becoming an open carry state, we feel like there is a lot of opportunity for education," said Robert Rendall, Land Use Consultant.
There will be a second reading next week for further approval.
After that, the city will submit a building permit for the building.
Once those plans are reviewed, contracts for construction of the building will begin.
