ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES)
An Ector County man will spend a long time behind bars for a deadly drunk driving crash nearly two years ago.
Carroll Carpenter, 54, was convicted on Friday of murder and intoxication manslaughter.
He will spend 28 years in prison for the murder charge and 13 years for the intoxication manslaughter charge.
They will be served concurrently.
The decision came after a crash that happened back in December of 2013 on West Loop 338.
His pick-up slammed into another pick-up driven by Ruben Gandara, 62.
Gandara and his passenger Paula Sanchez, 71, both died in the accident.
Their bodies were later exhumed as part of the investigation.
Police say Carpenter was going between 79 and 83 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone and say his blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.
