Today Proclaimed 'Healthy City Day' by Midland Officials

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - Midland officials proclaimed today Healthy City Day.

It will be every year on the third Saturday in September.

Saturday morning, despite the rain, residents took part in a citywide wellness tour, beginning at Centennial Plaza.

It was also Midland's very first city-wide health and wellness event, featuring a Rhythm Run 5K and Heart Walk, fun with the fire department and exercises led by YMCA staff.

"It's not just traditional health care, but safe roads, abundant park space and air and water quality. For our community, to truly make a difference in improving our overall health, we must impact all of these areas. It will require a collaborative effort to see progress," said Midland Health President and CEO, Russell Meyers.

Mayor Jerry Morales and Midland ISD Superintendent Dr. Ryder Warren were present for the special proclamation Saturday morning.

American bobsledder Johnny Quinn also spoke about his experience as an Olympian.
