Mother and Baby Burned in Explosion at Home

A young mother and her baby were burned in an explosion at their home in Seminole Tuesday evening. They are now in critical condition at a Lubbock hospital. A family member spoke with our NBC affiliate in Lubbock. Jessica Dilgadillo's and her 18 month old son were inside their home when an explosion went off.

SEMINOLE, TX (KWES) - "I said what are you doing Jessica? I'm cooking grandma, I cook. But, that thing exploded on me."

The Gaines County Sheriff's Office says it happened just before 5:00 Tuesday evening at their home on County Road 318 in Seminole. Dilgadillo's grandmother lives close by. She says she heard the explosion and looked outside. That's when she saw Dilgadillo running towards her with her baby in her arms. They were still on fire.

"Grandma, my baby is burning, my baby is burning."

Dilgadillo's grandmother says as Jessica went in and out of consciousness, she didn't realize she had pulled her baby out of the burning home.

"I told her, no mama, you got him. You got it, I got it? Yes I got it, you got it mama. He's okay. The baby is okay."

Delgadillo and her son are now fighting for their lives. They are in critical condition at a Lubbock hospital. Her grandmother says Jessica has internal burns. Her family tells us there were several other young children home when the explosion happened. They are thankful they were outside playing at the time. No one else was hurt in the fire. Investigators are still working to determine what caused the blast. Dilgadillo's family believes it was a gas explosion. At this time, foul play is not suspected.
