ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Ector County School District trustees approved purchasing land and the district's tax rate at their school board meeting Tuesday night.
The school board unanimously approved a tax rate of $1.15 per $100 valuation, which is slightly lower than last year's rate of $1.161.
Trustees also unanimously approved buying land as potential sites for future schools.
That land includes 100 acres on the Northwest corner of Faudree and Yukon.
School officials say it could be used for a new middle school and high school.
The other land is located at the Northwest corner of P Bar Ranch Road and Aaron Parker Boulevard.
It is 18.8 acres and could be the potential site for an elementary school.
The board also approved redesignating $1.5 million from a $3 million dollar fund, set aside for modular teacher housing, to buy the land.
In other action, trustees unanimously approved changing their employee hiring policy.
The change will allow the superintendent to approve hiring employees up to the level of principal without school board approval first.
