Ector County Commissioners Approve Budget, Tax Rate

Ector County Commissioners made a couple of big decisions at their meeting on Monday.

First, a new tax rate of 0.335 was approved.

It's a slight increase from last year and will raise taxes by about $16 a year per house.

They say it's the first time in years they've had to do this.

They also approved the 2015-2016 fiscal year budget, which will be nearly $2 million less than last year.

"This has been by far one of the toughest budgets we've faced because of the loss of mineral valuations that affect the county. I do think we did a good job of making significant cuts and toeing the line as much as we could. At the end of the day, we're going to have a budget that is less than last year's budget," said Ector County Judge, Susan Redford.

Commissioners also said they had to make personnel and department cuts to meet this upcoming fiscal year budget.
