Residents Gather for "Bless Our Blue" Prayer Vigil to Support Law Enforcement

MIDLAND-ODESSA, TX (KWES) -

Locals gathered Saturday evening to pray for those in law enforcement and their families. It was all to wrap peace and support around those who risk their lives everyday protecting the community. Organizers called it "Bless Our Blue".

"We're out here to show our support and let them know we appreciate all that they do," said Dusty Roach, a local supporter of law enforcement.

"We just felt the need. We just had to pray. Just had to," said Gary Gibson, a local supporter of law enforcement.

These men hold law enforcement and first responders close their heart. Like many that joined them for the prayer, they've had several family members and close friends loose their lives while in the line of duty.

"I'm praying that every police officer or law enforcement officer in our area can walk out of their house in the morning and know that they're going to come back at night and be with their loved ones again," said Sandi McCollum, a member of the Christian Motorcyclist Association.

Recent murders and killings of law enforcement officers hit home for those at the prayer. That's what moved them to come together and show support.

"The way they're being attacked, they need love, they need support, and they need prayer," said Roach.

"We're going to double up and we're going to fall in beside them," said Gibson.

"They're willing to give their lives up for us and the least we can do is respect them for that," said McCollum.

Heads bowed, holding hands, wrapping arms, those gathered for the prayer, showed their appreciation for those who put their lives on the line everyday.
