MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The results for the 2015 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive are in.
A total of 167 people donated blood, which came out to 147 units in just four days.
The grand prize winner, who will receive an unlimited amount of bragging rights is the Midland Fire Department. The battle was between firefighters and police officers to see who could get the most donors to come out and donate blood for a good cause.
Congratulations, and a big thank you to all who donated.
West Texas hospitals need about 130 pints of blood every day for trauma and cancer patients, surgeries and other lifesaving procedures.
It's one of the Basin's biggest blood drives, going on through Sunday, September 13, at 6 p.m.
The event takes place at Midland Park Mall and it's a competition between area police and fire departments to see who can donate the most blood.
United Blood Services says each year it gets more difficult to maintain a stable blood supply. That's because everyone is focused on back-to-school events and work from the summer months.
If you go donate, you will be able to vote for either the police or firefighters as your hero. The winning department will earn a trophy and bragging rights.
All who donate blood will receive a t-shirt, snacks and gifts from Chick-Fil-A, Fuddruckers and Great American Cookie.
Again, the event is happening at the Midland Park Mall at the center court Saturday, September 12 through Sunday, September 13 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
