Well Service Company Fined Following Deadly Oilfield Explosion

UPTON COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

OSHA has cited mason well service of Odessa for a deadly oil rig fire earlier this year.

Back in March, Arturo Martinez, Sr., Arturo Martinez, Jr. and Rogelio Salgado were killed as they worked to install a blowout preventer on a rig.

That's when it caught fire.

OSHA says Mason Well Service failed to prevent contact between an ignition source and flammable liquids and gases.

They also say the company did not ensure that they're workers wore personal hydrogen sulfide monitors and flame retardant clothing.

In all, they were hit with one repeated and five serious violations.

They were also fined a little more than $50,000.

Parsley Energy owned the well and had contracted Mason Well Service to install the preventer.
